2 Methods DLA – approximating both CaCO3 and H2CO3 molecules in solution. Heterogeneous nucleation The ions in solution are under flow conditions and mostly move from right to left (with components if both up and down motion approximating semi-turbulent flow). Boundary conditions are reflective on both the x- axis and top boundary. Ions reaching the y-axis do not react with the system.

3 Movie The GIF shows the calcium carbonate aggregating in the flow path. Once the flowing fluid becomes acidic, precipitation ceases, and dissolution occurs preferentially from the least dense areas of the dendrites towards the nucleation surface.
