To meet the needs of district summer staffing timelines, we’re extending our application window for the ‘18-’19 program year. Hello and welcome to an information session about the Turnaround Leadership Development Program at Region Education Service Center in Austin, Texas. Thank you for coming this evening and for your interest in this program. We are so excited to share one of our newest programs, in the 20 year history of educator preparation. I’d like to share with you an update: to meet the needs of district summer staffing timelines, we’re extending our application window for the ‘18-’19 program year. My name is Sarah Reuwsaat and I am the Coordinator of Administrator Quality. I work with the Turnaround Leadership Development Program as well as our principal and superintendent alternative certification programs. Ashlie Scott is our program support and will be in contact with you for registration or documentation needs throughout the program as well as available to help you with program questions. What’s Needed in Schools Today
Collaborative, data-savvy, reflective instructional leaders who are focused on increasing student achievement of all children… As current administrators, I am sure you know what it takes to lead a school in today’s society. What are some of those skills? In short, we know that it requires collaborative, data-savvy, reflective instructional leaders who are focused on increasing student achievement of all children. It is important that we share with you specifics about what is required to become an administrator in the state of Texas including necessary personal skills, supply and demand for administrators and responsibilities. We have this information on our website.

What’s Needed in Low-Performing Schools Today
Driven for Results Influencing for Results Problem-Solving Confidence to Lead Public Impact (2008) For this program, however, research tells us something different. Research shows that persistently low-performing schools require a different kind of leader and leadership in order to make significant gains in student achievement, within a short period of time. It requires the right person with the right competencies, training and support which has been proven to make significant gains. That’s why we are here, supporting leaders through this program. Mission Preparing future leaders to meet the evolving challenges faced by schools of the new millennium by redefining educational leadership. We will accomplish this by developing and delivering a high quality endorsement program designed to prepare you for the leadership and skills necessary for greater success in schools with low performance.

What is Turnaround Leadership?
A dramatic and comprehensive intervention in a low-performing school that produces significant gains in student achievement within two academic years. (Mass Insight Education &Research Institute, 2007)-The Turnaround Mindset: Aligning Leadership for Student Success 2011 Fairchild & DeMary. So what exactly is Turnaround Leadership? How many of you have heard that terminology used? Here is the definition that we are basing our discussion on.

What is the Turnaround Leadership Development Program?
The Turnaround Leadership Development Program at Region 13 is an elite, 9 month program that provides high quality training, coaching and support to prepare leaders for work in turnaround schools. The goal is to provide participants the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of turnaround leadership and what it means to successfully lead in turnaround schools. Benefits include: Individual leadership development plan, specialized leadership feedback through BEI and 360 assessments, executive leadership coaching including two on-site visits, relevant resources for continuous learning, two 360 feedback analysis visits, specialized turnaround leadership training and an endorsement certificate upon completion of the program.

Program Design Program Scope: August 18, 2018-April 27, 2019
August 18th (Saturday)- Orientation and Kick-Off September 2018-April Turnaround Leader training and support Our program will begin with a summer kick-off on August 18th and run through April 27th of Starting in September 2018 you will come together as a cohort for turnaround leadership training over the course of 7 face to face Saturday classes and one fully online facilitated class, training on turnaround leadership and what it takes to lead in turnaround schools. You will begin to implement and practice some of the skills as you are learning. Throughout the program you will work with your coach who will also make campus visits to give you even more feedback.

Program Design Blend of face-to-face and online training and development Cohort model Individual leadership development plan and action project 6 hour of pivotal executive leadership coaching including 2 on campus visits Program Coordinator weekly support and two on-campus 360 assessment feedback visits Orientation and Leadership Kick-Off 7 on-site weekend seminars, 1 off site session facilitation Time between on-site sessions to complete readings, online engagement, action project Program facilitated by experienced administrators Program curriculum grounded in Turnaround Leadership best practices BEI and 360 assessment Our program is designed with both face-to-face and online training and development. You will meet face-to-face with your Program Coordinator and cohort members 8 times throughout the program; one session will be completely online. Between sessions you will engage in learning extensions. We follow a cohort model so you will have the benefit of learning through dialogue and exposure to other leaders’ experiences and problem-solving. It also creates a lasting network for recruiting and resources. During this program, based on feedback from BEI and 360 assessments, you will create and begin an action plan that allows you to hone in on and grow in your turnaround leadership competencies. You will meet and engage with at least two turnaround experts in the field now. On the final class you will present progress on the action project to your colleagues and a panel of turnaround experts. You will be supported throughout the program by weekly support from Program Coordinator, six hours of pivotal leadership coaching including 2 on-site visits, and BEI and 360 assessment feedback data. Our entire program is grounded in the Turnaround Leadership best practices.

You’ll engage in 6 hours of pivotal leadership coaching, two visits which will be in person at your campus. You’ll have consistent support from your Program Coordinator to ensure you are getting the support you need as a turnaround leader. We are a blended model; you’ll have the flexibility of online support and dialogue between sessions, but will also engage in 8 face-to-face sessions and one fully online session to engage with your cohort in a focus on turnaround leadership competencies. TLD Program Costs Application Fee - $100 nonrefundable application fee is required to establish eligibility for program entrance. Registration Fee - A nonrefundable training fee of $ (once accepted into the program). This fee holds your spot in the program. Program Fee - $350 per session (9 total: due by each monthly) *District Commitment Form is available through Region 13; discounted rate for 3 or more enrolled leaders* $550 per person savings! Program Fees are listed here. Fees are paid throughout the program or can be paid completely up front. Program costs are non-refundable. Total program cost is $3,550 per person. This includes application, registration, BEI and 360 assessments, program texts, 6 hours of pivotal leadership coaching, orientation and leadership kick-off and 8 classes, weekly Program Coordinator support, and all remaining program costs. Districts may get a $550 discount per person when they enroll 3 or more leaders.

Application and Screening Process
Step 1-Apply online: Application Cycle Closes August 6th, 5PM Step 2 – Phone Interview for qualified applicants August 1-7 Step 3 – Notification of admission status via August 8th Step 4-BEI Region 13 or home campus, August 13-17 The application cycle closes August 6th at 5PM. So what is required and what is the process for screening and selection? Criteria includes · Resume · Letter of Interest · Accomplishment Record (Online Application) · Recommendations forms: Forms should include at least 1 from a peer, a supervisor and from a staff member you supervise · Valid educator/administrator certificate · Strong desire to work in low-performing schools · Open to current and aspiring administrators Following application submission with all required supplemental pieces, I will hold an evening phone interview with each qualified candidate to ensure this is the program to best support your leadership development. On all applicants will be notified about admission status by . We will schedule your BEI to take place at either Region 13 or your place of work. Please note that the leadership kick-off is August 18th, so you’ll want to Save the Date when you submit your application.

Program Timeline Those Selected will participate in the following professional development – August 18th Mandatory Program Orientation and Leadership Kick-off August 2018 BEI Assessment September 2018-April 2019 Mandatory Face-to-Face and Online Training (8 Saturday classes), Pivotal leadership coaching and campus visits, two assessments, Action project April 2019 Program closure, Action project presentations As a reminder of our program timeline, we will kick-off the program with an orientation and leadership kick-off on August 18th. Between the August kick-off and September face to face class you will engage in a BEI assessment. September 2018 to April 2019 you will attend seven face-to-face classes, engage in one online facilitated session, and work independently and engage in Google Classroom dialogue throughout the scope of the program. April 27th is our last class where you will share your progress on your action project.
