Figure 4 | Types of urinary diversion. a | Ileal conduit, which became the gold-standard diversion owing to relative ease of construction and low complication rates. b | Cutaneous ureterostomy. c | Orthotopic neobladder or continent orthotopic diversion, which more closely resembles the native bladder than other urinary diversions and is anastomosed directly to the urethra, relying on the external striated sphincter to maintain continence. d | Continent cutaneous diversion, which consists of detubularized bowel that is used to create a low-pressure reservoir.
