Numbers of enrolled subjects and blood samples for fatty acid and mRNA analyses. Four subjects did not fulfill the inclusion criteria. Dropouts were due to noncompliance (n = 2), relocation (n = 1), bad taste of the supplement (n = 9), and lost contact (n = 2). In 17 cases the reasons for dropout are unknown. Forty-six maternal and 25 cord blood samples were not included in the mRNA analyses because not enough material was available or contamination with genomic DNA could not be excluded.
