19 Choosing Quality/Rigor – AP
The College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level classes that you can take while still in high school. They offer challenging course work and a taste of what college classes are like. ( The benefits of taking AP courses are: To stand out in college admissions (Choosing rigor & building your GPA) To earn college credit To skip introductory courses in college North Lenoir offers 7 AP courses: AP English Language and Composition AP English Literature and Composition AP Calculus AB AP Calculus BC AP Statistics AP Biology AP Environmental Science See NLHS Most Rigorous Course Options in your packet (page 5)

20 Choosing Quality/Rigor – CCP
Career and College Promise (CCP) is a program for current high school students in the 11th or 12th grade that have a 3.0+ GPA. CCP are college-level classes taken through Lenoir Community College. Students can earn college credits as well as high school credits. CCP courses listed on the General Education College Transfer Pathways will transfer to a 4-year college/university with a grade earned of “C” or better. Some CCP courses substitute/supplant graduation required courses. CCP as well as AP courses carry the highest quality points (5.0) and help build a strong grade point average (GPA). Students should plan to take a mixture of AP and CCP courses. See NLHS Most Rigorous Course Options in your packet (page 5)

21 High School Transcript See sample transcript in your Packet (pages 6-8)
Every student starts a transcript when they enter high school. Your high school transcript shows: all high school courses you take all final grades you earn in those courses all credits earned while in high school your GPA (grade point average)weighted & unweighted Your high school transcript is “you” on paper and the first piece of information colleges review when you apply for admission. This complete record of your coursework, grades and credits provides concrete evidence of whether you're prepared to attend a particular college or not. What is a transcript?
