The program office has responsibility for preventing, and/or mitigating the health and environmental hazards resulting from sudden and unexpected or intentional releases or discharges of oil and hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants, including releases of biological, chemical and radiological agents, and uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Application to Current Goals This internship provided me with the experience and the contacts to further my career in the environmental field. The networking opportunities I was given are highly valuable, and the trainings I attended gave me insight into the work of environmental clean up and processes. Because I was in the emergency response field, I was able to observe the various stages of response and planning from the initial incident response, to the closing memos of sites. I was also able to get involve in some of the specific chemistries and ecologies of certain sites that were in the process of being cleaned.
