Factors that limit the ability of habitats to sustain a population.
LIMITING FACTOR Factors that limit the ability of habitats to sustain a population.
2
LIMITING FACTOR Carrying Capacity - Largest Population that an environment can support. FOOD -One Giraffe needs 10 Kg of leaves per day -Trees in the habitat provide 100 Kg per day -How many Giraffes can survive in this habitat?
3
LIMITING FACTOR SPACE COMPETITION CROWDING STRESS DISEASE
INVASIVE SPECIES PARASITISM If organisms are crowded, some will not be able to reproduce or even survive.
4
LIMITING FACTORS WEATHER
TEMPERATURE AND RAINFALL SUNLIGHT AVAILABILITY NATURAL DISASTERS Severe weather can kill many members of a population!!
5
OTHER LIMITING FACTORS HUMAN ACITIVITY- construction/hunting
ORGANISM BEHAVIORS-Not being able to migrate, estivate, hibernate PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS- Not having favorable adaptations like camouflage, colored markings etc…

Applying skills Year 5 10 15 20 25 30 Population (thousands) 65 100 40 Explain what may have happened to the deer population in year 16. Focus on limiting factors as a cause.
7
Name some other Limiting Factors!!
