2 Digital technology is transforming how people work More and more organizations are taking intelligence and distributing it to the edge. OPTIMIZE OPERATIONS by reducing risk, cost, and complexity of IT TRANSFORM PRODUCTS by quickly adapting to changing business needs EMPOWER EMPLOYEES with anywhere, any time, on any device access ENGAGE CUSTOMERS with constant connections and personalized interactions Digital transformation is essential to organizations today. To digitally transform your overall organization, businesses need to: Optimize operations - Optimizing business processes often starts with IT infrastructure. Once you divvy up what information you can store where, you can greatly reduce the cost and complexity of IT management with new resources like the Cloud. Transform services - If you innovate with agility, and are open to the consistent changes we see in today’s business landscape, you’ll be able to adapt quickly to changing business needs. Empower your employees – Your employees need to be empowered to do their best work from anywhere, at any time, on any device. Engage your customers – You’re expecting new levels of connections with the businesses you partner with and purchase from. In this digital age, you’re experiencing deep personalization and interactive marketing, as well as enjoying the ability to connect with businesses easier than ever before. The majority of organizations today are undergoing a digital transformation involving the intelligent Cloud. At the same time, many companies continue to maintain an on-premises presence. To get the most of your on-premises infrastructure and lay the groundwork for digital technology requires devising a clear strategy.

3 But digital transformation presents several infrastructure challenges:
Optimizing application and server workloads Understanding priorities for moving workloads Legacy systems and barriers to Cloud migration Key points: In order to evaluate your infrastructure, your readiness to move to the Cloud, and to determine the right path, you need to understand your current environment and future roadmap. Usually you begin by thinking about your application and server workloads. You want to ensure you’re getting the most out of them and the best ROI possible. Next, you want to look at what you want to move from on-premises into the Cloud. Based on what you choose, you need to know what software is eligible to move into the Cloud and the licensing associated with your infrastructure. You can then explore how to migrate that solution, which includes prioritizing the order in which to move them. Remember that if you have older legacy systems and customized aspects within your solution, you may find it challenging to transition to the Cloud. You really want to figure out how complex will this all be. Is it worth the bother and time? Migrating from on-premises to the Cloud

4 Pave the way for digital transformation by getting the most out of your IT infrastructure
A SAM Infrastructure Optimization engagement helps: OPTIMIZE OPERATIONS by reducing risk, cost, and complexity of IT TRANSFORM PRODUCTS by quickly adapting to changing business needs EMPOWER EMPLOYEES with anywhere, any time, on any device access ENGAGE CUSTOMERS with constant connections and personalized interactions Out of the four areas of digital transformation, a SAM engagement concerning infrastructure optimization focuses on two: Optimizing Operations by reducing the complexity of your IT environment, which in turn helps you reduce cost. Transforming products by providing a more agile infrastructure, one that stays up-to-date with the latest changes and opens the door to innovation and faster time-to-market.

5 Optimize your IT infrastructure with SAM
A SAM Infrastructure Optimization engagement helps you select and prioritize your current server workloads and applications to transition to the Cloud while providing insights on the business, cost, and technology benefits. Key points: As with any major platform change, you need to approach the Cloud adoption process in an informed, deliberate manner. Because SAM provides you with clear line of sight into your current licensing infrastructure, it can help to reduce risk as you consider Cloud computing and Cloud services. A full understanding of your IT environment and usage patterns, mapped against predicted future direction, helps ensure alignment with overall business needs. It also increases management control while enabling increased flexibility and responsiveness. The Infrastructure Optimization engagement helps you select and prioritize your current server workloads and applications to transition to the Cloud while providing insights on the business, cost, and technology benefits. The analysis will be the basis for the evaluation of your overall infrastructure in relation to your on-premises and Cloud strategy, helping you optimize your current application and server workloads while providing insights on the business, licensing, and technology benefits to moving additional workloads to the Cloud. The analysis will also lead to the ability to provide recommendations to optimize SAM policies and procedures to facilitate your digital transformation strategy and implementation. To establish these recommendations, the SAM Partner will perform a full environmental (physical and virtual) discovery, gathered through third-party tools, along with customer interviews and other relevant sources. With this data, the partner will provide a desktop Cloud Capability Assessment and recommendations for you on how to get the most value from related IT investments. If you have currently deployed Office 365, the partner will provide a high-level end-user security summary.

6 11/8/2018 3:43 PM Value to you A SAM Infrastructure Optimization engagement helps you simplify your digital transformation strategy and implementation. Control Helps you better manage usage and consumption Gives insight into cost benefits of Cloud migration and cost of ownership Optimize Reduces costs through improved operational efficiencies Lets you get the most out of your current server workloads and applications Key points: This SAM program is designed to do more than just gather information. It can help you turn information into insight to add greater value to your business. Script: First, we provide you with a comprehensive inventory of all deployed software including Microsoft software, as well as a list of all the devices in your environment, including mobile devices and their make and model. This information helps us with planning and reporting to simplify your digital transformation strategy. We then have a role mapping for all servers in your environment, separated by their function in the business. For example, you can see which servers are used for production, development, or testing. Some customers have found high-value hardware that was being used in a test environment, and moved them to the production environment. We next provide you with a mapping of your virtual environment, and help you get your virtual environment licensed in the most optimal and accurate way. Your partner helps you capture your virtual and physical servers in your environment and link the virtual desks to their physical hosts. The mapping also includes the migration activity of your virtual servers within your physical infrastructure. I’d like to assure you that we are highly skilled and trained to help simplify data collection. While some work will be required, we keep the workload for your staff to a minimum. We ensure that your data is highly secure throughout this process, enabling you to test any tools that we use for data collection. We use the infrastructure that you already have, whether it’s Altiris, LANDesk, Microsoft System Center, or another tool, without introducing anything new into your environment. We continually share our knowledge along the way, so you can repeat the process yourself in the future. You also get a better understanding of Volume Licensing, which can be very complex, as well as your current license entitlements. We provide you with a report called the Microsoft Licensing Statement, which shows all purchases and entitlements in our internal systems. You can work with us to make sure that it is accurate and you are getting full credit for what you have purchased. We then help you identify any gaps in your current business processes and work with you to help improve SAM. You can use this program for mergers and acquisitions, to help determine the value of assets within a business that is up for sale or being considered as an acquisition. 7 What to expect from a SAM engagement
11/8/2018 3:43 PM What to expect from a SAM engagement Every SAM engagement focuses on four phases: PLANNING Identify your needs & goals Gather information on licensing, IT landscape & business organization Discuss project and arrange access & resources DATA COLLECTION Take inventory of hardware, software, and licenses using tools, questionnaires, and stakeholder interviews Gather information on process & procedures DATA ANALYSIS Review & validate all collected data Compare deployed assets with current utilization Map to an optimized environment based on your goals FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS Discuss final recommendations and engage in data-driven discussions to ensure your business needs & goals are met Every engagement will be slightly varied depending on your infrastructure, needs, and goals. At a high level, an engagement can be broken down into four phases: Planning, Data Collection, Data Analysis, and Final Presentation. Planning – The planning phase consists of gathering information from you on your infrastructure, identifying engagement goals, securing appointments and meetings, and arranging access to begin data collection and analysis. Data Collection – The data collection phase consists of the discovery and inventory of software assets using an inventory tool followed by the mapping of inventory data, usage, and license entitlements. This may include a questionnaire and interviews with key stakeholders to ensure all relevant data and information is collected to provide a full and accurate analysis of software deployments, licensing entitlements, and current management processes. Data Analysis – The data analysis phase includes the review and validation of all collected data, the identification of Microsoft license agreements, and the analysis of your long-term virtualization strategy. During this phase, ways to optimize virtual environments and licensing are explored to provide final engagement considerations and recommendations. Final Recommendations – At the conclusion of the SAM Engagement your SAM Partner will present their results, recommendations and next steps in an overview presentation along with a set of detailed reports. © 2014 Microsoft Corporation.
