Vulnerability Assessment Methodology
1: Identify Indicators 2: Exposure 3: Sensitivity Potential Impacts 4: Adaptive Capacity Vulnerability You have now completed all the steps of the Vulnerability Assessment and have identified a list of priority indicators to focus your efforts on.
3
What’s the next step? So what is the next step?
4
“A climate change vulnerability assessment is done before you develop a climate change response plan” Conducting a Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment is only part of the process in preparing for climate change. The next step is to develop a climate change response plan with possible responses and projects to adapt to the most important impacts that you identified through the Vulnerability Assessment. .
5
Vulnerability Assessment
What are Potential impacts from Climate Change? Which Impacts are most important? How do I respond? Vulnerability Assessment Response Plan This graphic highlights the link between your vulnerability assessment and climate change response plan. To recap, at the start you identified a list of all the potential impacts from climate change. Through the VA process you were able to determine which ones were most important for your area. Now, the next step involves thinking about how you will respond to these impacts through the identification of projects and responses. These responses can be summarised in your climate change response plan.

A Climate Change Response Plan Template for each province has been developed Aim is to provide a starting point for the development of a change response plan Download: se-plan-templates

Applying S.M.A.R.T Principles to Responses
Specific Target a specific area for improvement S Measurable Quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress M A Assignable Specify who will do it R Realistic State what results can realistically be achieved T Time-related Specify when the result(s) can be achieved When drafting responses, you should consider applying the SMART principles. This means that your responses should be: Specific, by targeting a specific area for improvement. Measurable, or at least suggest an indicator of progress. Assignable, to a specific implementer Realistic, and achievable, given your available resources. And lastly, The response must also have a clear time frame specifying when the results can be achieved.
