Puritan Writing Key Elements and Characteristics. Pt. 1
A key element of the Puritan writing style would be the Plain Prose Style, It was a type of writing that uncomplicated sentences and words so that the writing was composed of more direct statements. The Puritans wanted to express themselves clearly, in accordance to their religious beliefs. Bradford believed that a plain prose style was essential to preserve the simple truths at the heart of his writing.

Puritan Writing Key Elements and Characteristics. Pt. 2
The Puritans also felt that they had the job of glorifying God, so they wrote in Church Sermon Style. The reason that the Puritans started to write in the church sermon style was because they had begun to realize that there was a decay of godliness occurring around them. The Puritans typically wrote in a style called Purposiveness, which had allowed them to write of the meaning of their lives and the meaning of God. Their writing style, therefore, often tends toward the introspective and spiritual as they engage in deep self-searching and metaphysical reasoning.
