Vocabulary Words: Database: a comprehensive collection of related data organized for convenient access, generally in a computer. Flat File Database: A flat file database is a database that stores data in a plain text file. Relational database: a database structured to recognize relations between stored items of information. Redundancy: Data redundancy is a condition created within a database or data storage technology in which the same piece of data is held in two separate places. Transaction: A transaction is a very small unit of a program and it may contain several lowlevel tasks. A transaction in a database system must maintain Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability − commonly known as ACID properties − in order to ensure accuracy, completeness, and data integrity. Atomicity: In database systems, atomicity (or atomicness; from Greek atomos, undividable) is one of the ACID transaction properties. An atomic transaction is an indivisible and irreducible series of database operations such that either all occur, or nothing occurs. Schema: The database schema of a database system is its structure described in a formal language supported by the database management system (DBMS). State: The database must remain in a consistent state after any transaction.
