RD Internship: How to Train Faculty and Staff to Help Build Out Your College’s Grant-Seeking Capacity Welcome and introductions. They have the subject matter expertise to craft effective, workable grant projects. Their professional commitment to excellence and innovation means they have a stake in the project. They benefit from grant seeking: professional development and advancement, funding to actualize their ideas for educational improvement Why don’t more faculty and staff engage in grant seeking? 5 The most intensive method at MDC: the RD Internship
Begun in 2010 Purpose: Create a cadre of grants specialists to form grant-seeking hubs on campus and networks across campuses 4 interns each fall and spring term 40 hours of on-site immersion in the RD Office, paired with a grant writer

6 Internship competencies
Review campus and unit grant history. Identify project ideas that meet unit needs. Develop a grant concept paper. Find a funding opportunity to fit the concept. Use research and data in grant proposals. Adapt a concept paper for a funding opportunity.

7 Outcomes and next steps
Internship alumni: How has the internship affected your engagement with grant seeking? Has the internship helped you engage colleagues? What changes would you recommend in the program? Florida colleges: Do you have similar programs? How would you improve the program?
