9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. 10 For you are great and do marvellous deeds; you alone are God. Psalm 86:9-10

WORSHIP IS NOT JUST MUSIC

1. Worship is not just music
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

WORSHIP IS NOT FOR OUR BENEFIT

2. Worship is not for our benefit
13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. 14 Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.” Isaiah 29:13-14

2. Worship is not for our benefit
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Revelation 4:11

TRUE WORSHIP IS A SURRENDERED LIFE

3. True worship is a surrendered life
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” 36 For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36

3. True worship is a surrendered life
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

3. True worship is a surrendered life
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

3. True worship is a surrendered life
“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5

3. True worship is a surrendered life
But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22

3. True worship is a surrendered life
...without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

TRUE WORSHIP COMES FROM THE HEART

4. True worship comes from the heart
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12:30

4. True worship comes from the heart
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24

4. True worship comes from the heart
Worship must be vital and real in the heart, and worship must rest on a true perception of god. There must be spirit and there must be truth Truth without emotion produces dead orthodoxy and a church full (or half-full) of artificial admirers on the other hand, emotion without truth produces empty frenzy and cultivates shallow people who refuse the discipline of rigorous thought. But true worship comes from people who are deeply emotional and who love deep and sound doctrine. Strong affections for god rooted in truth are the bone and marrow of biblical worship. John Piper

33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12:33-34

13 Enter through the narrow gate
13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
