The Egyptian Kingdom was formed in 3500 BCE almost 5000 years ago! Because Upper and lower Egypt were united by one King.

The people formed a kingdom by the Nile River. They chose this area because the soil could grow many crops thanks to the water from the river. When the Nile flooded the land afterwards was called the “black land”.

Since it was so hot, Egyptians wore clothing that kept them cool. Women wore tunics that were like long t-shirts. Men wore short skirts. People did not usually wear shoes. Kids did not wear clothes until they were about six years old. This means they ran around naked!

Both men and women wore makeup! They both wore blue or green eye shadow. They also wore eyeliner because it helped to keep the glare from the sun out of their eyes.

There was one ruler in charge of Egypt. This person was called the Pharaoh (King). He owned everything in the land, including the people. Everyone had to do anything the Pharaoh said to do.

Most Egyptian children did not go to school. They had to work with their parents in the fields. This means that they did not learn to read or write.

The Egyptians believed in 2,000 different gods, not just one god like most Americans. They believed each god was in charge of different things. For example, Ra was the sun god and Isis was the god of magic.

Why is it so hard to think humans built the pyramids? Well limestone is really heavy, the average stone used was 2.5 tons to 10 tons= 5,000 to 20,000 pounds. To show you how heavy that is here is a video only carrying 7,000 pounds.
