Extended Reading Garbage sorting is sweeping the world, because all the cities around the world are facing mountains of garbage produced every day. In developed countries, the recycling rate of garbage is much higher, thanks to their sorting systems. Take Japan for example. In the past 4 years, the Japanese city of Kamikatsu has raised its recycled waste to 80%. In Japan, garbage is sorted into four big groups: burnable (可燃的) waste such as household food scraps (残羹剩饭), non burnable waste such as broken glass and batteries, plastic containers as well as recyclable waste such as newspaper and magazines. Hard rubbish such as desks and old TV sets has another system. Each city in Japan determines (确定) its own rules. “In Japan, you cannot throw away your garbage every day, and the garbage must be sorted out. You have to put the right garbage in the right place at the right time. Qs: 1. How many groups do the Japanese sort their garbage? What are they?
