STAY CONNECTED: Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism
AMCD STATEMENT REGARDING THE MASS SHOOTING AT TREE OF LIFE SYNAGOGUE, PITTSBURGH, PA OCTOBER 27, 2018 Some resources to support counselors when working with clients and communities after mass shooting and racial trauma. The Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), a division of the American Counseling Association, send our condolences and sympathies to our family and friends at Tree of Life Synagogue, the Squirrel Hill and Jewish Community, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We at AMCD reiterate the statement issued by HIAS, “There are no words to express how devastated we are by the events in Pittsburgh this morning. This loss is our loss, and our thoughts are with Tree of Life Congregation, … the city of Pittsburgh and all those affected by this senseless act of violence.” AMCD seeks to develop programs specifically to improve ethnic and racial empathy and understanding, is charged with the responsibility of defending human and civil rights as prescribe by law, and encourages changing attitudes and enhancing understanding of cultural diversity. We do not tolerate such senseless acts and hate crimes such as this in Pittsburgh, PA, the United States and globally. AMCD will continue to work tirelessly to enhance the development, human rights, and psychological health of those populations we serve; improve the cultural climate of those populations we serve; and eliminate conditions that create barriers to the individual development of marginalized populations. Continued prayers to the Jewish, Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, and American Communities. Shon D. Smith, Ed.D. President, AMCD Taunya M.
