5. Credit Schedule
AUCA awards students 3 additional credits each semester (tuition free) in the second, third, and fourth year of study.
33 credits each semester for Sophomore year.
Use these credits for Gen Ed courses – only 3 credit listings.

6. Auditing Policy
6 audit credits are allowed but not required. Not recommended in Sophomore (2nd) year.
If you choose Audit for a course and seats are available, Online Registration system will allow it.
If Online Registration does not allow you to Audit a course there are no available seats.

7. Prerequisites
Pre-requisites: courses required prior to taking advanced courses (200, 300, 400 level).
Example: cannot take FYS 211 before FYS 100
Example: Psychology 101 required before Psychology 250
Fail PSY 125? Cannot advance to PSY 250

9. First Year Seminar :: REMINDER
FYS I is offered ONLY in Fall semester.
Students who fail FYS I (‘F’ grade) register for FYS I in Fall 2018.
FYS II is offered ONLY in Spring semester.
Students who fail FYS II register for FYS II in Spring 2019.
Failing either FYS I or II (24 credits each) can prevent you from taking SYS requirement in Sophomore year.
Academic Advising, WARC, Professors, Counseling Services, fellow students are resources for you. Ask for help.
For fall 2012 students were preregistered for FYS and major classes.

10. Second Year Seminar :: REQUIREMENT
Second Year Seminar (SYS) is a REQUIRED continuation of the First Year Seminar.
SYS courses also fulfill General Education requirements.
For example: “Technology and Culture,” CODE: HUM/ART/SYS

11. Math Requirements
AUCA/BARD require all students to take 12 credits (two 6 credit courses) of MATH to earn a Bard College diploma.
Students from Applied Math, BA, ECO, EMSD (in LAS) and SFW should NOT take General Education math courses.

12. Math Requirements
The General Education Department offers the following MATH courses that fulfill one of the Gen Ed Requirements:

Math for Life I

13. Math Requirements
ANTH, ES, IBL, ICP, JMC, LAS, PSY, SOC, TV, GEO Majors: to transfer to BA enroll in Intro to Contemporary Math I.
Students must receive a final grade of B+ or higher to transfer.
ANTH, ES, IBL, ICP, JMC, LAS, PSY, SOC, TV, GEO Majors: to transfer to ECO, AMI or SFW enroll in Linear Algebra and Geometry for ECO/AMI/SFW.

14. Math Requirements
PSY, SOC, JMC and VAFT Majors: take Introduction to Probability and Statistics by end of Sophomore year.
Preparation for advanced math course (SPSS) in Junior year.
SPSS fulfills the second math requirement.
ANTH department students should take an additional 3 credits in Computer Science.

15. Math Requirements
ANTH, ES, ICP, JMC, LAS Majors: who DO NOT want to transfer to BA, ECO, AMI or SFW take two of the following: a) Math for Life I
b) Introduction to Probability and Statistics
c) Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics I

16. Russian and Kyrgyz :: REMINDER
Students are required to take 6 credits of Kyrgyz Language course and 6 credits of Russian Language course.
Look for double codes : ART/RUS, ART/KYR, HIST/RUS, HIST/KYR
Double coded courses fulfill two requirements.
Example: “Echo of The Past: Soviet Sci-Fi in Film” code RUS/ART fulfills Russian language and Art requirements. 6 credits of Russian and 6 credits of Art.
Look for BEGINNER level of language to succeed in the course. INTERMEDIATE level is for fluent speakers.

17. Foreign Languages
Japanese (part I and II), Korean (part I), Chinese (part I) should be offered in FALL If so, in Spring 2019 students continue taking part II of the selected language.
German, French, and Spanish (part I, II) are offered in Fall In Spring 2019 students continue taking part II of the selected language.
If a student wants to take an Intermediate level course (as Part I), s/he must first take a test at European Studies department.

19. Language Course Policy
Second language: All of them can cover Humanities or Social Sciences GenEd requirements.
AUCA policy states that if a student earns (6) credits for one (Fall) semester of a language but does not take (6) credits of the same language the second (Spring) semester in that academic year, the grade and 6 credits will be removed from the student’s transcript.
Students cannot take 6 credit overload in a subsequent semester unless he/she pays for that overload.

20. Bard College diploma
Most majors earn a Bard College diploma upon graduation.
BA & IBL majors must take additional credits for certificate:
12 credits Social Science
12 credits Art
12 credits Math courses
12 credits Humanities courses
Law students might have an opportunity to receive BARD College certificate if majoring in Human Rights. For detailed information please contact the head of the IBL program.

21. Sport classes 400 hours required for degree
100 hours per semester (4 semesters)
Non-credit requirement; does not influence GPA
ONLY one Sport class per semester
NON PASS grade for a Sport class requires payment for a 5th semester / additional Sport class – $200 fee.

22. Sport classes
Taking a sport outside the university or have a health issue (not allowed to take sports)?

23. Specialized Individual courses
Individual courses are offered at an additional fee of $135.
Courses are 2 credits.

24. History of Kyrgyzstan :: REQUIREMENT
History of Kyrgyzstan REQUIRED during Sophomore year.
Students take a state exam at the end of Sophomore year; History of Kyrgyzstan course increases success.

25. Add/Drop period Monday, September 3rd to Friday, September 14th
Please remember that adding and dropping courses can disrupt a professor’s course schedule and the learning of fellow students. Choose wisely.

26. “W” grade
Deadline for Withdrawing (“W” grade) from a class is always the 10th week of the semester.
If you decide to take a “W” grade:

6 week course intensives (every day)
6 credit course = 30 class visits
