Today’s Education Computing Challenges
You want every student to develop the skills they need to succeed in the knowledge economy, but cannot fund a 1:1 computing model Many schools face: Limited finances for new PCs Restricted ICT maintenance budgets Limited ICT integration training opportunities for teachers Need to contain school power bills and be energy-efficient Requirement to make the most of existing investments in mice, keyboards, monitors, etc. Education Challenges If the above scenario describes your school’s situation, you’re not alone. Around the world education institutions face the challenge of skilling the next generation of innovators by providing them with access to computers. Budgets are limited. So are PCs. And the more technology you buy the higher the maintenance and power costs become. So what’s the answer?

Shared Resource Computing (SRC)
What is it? Using one computer’s excess capability to support multiple users at the same time. SRC helps reduce the total cost of ownership for school computing through: Lower hardware acquisition costs Lower operating expenses Less management complexity Less power consumption Shared Resource Computing can be a great solution for schools with limited IT budgets. Instead of buying every student a PC, you can share a few PCs between the whole class. This is not about taking turns to use the computer! Students have their own monitors, keyboards and/or mice and see only their own work on their display. The benefits are significant: Each student can have an individual computing experience And schools can reduce the total cost of ownership for school computing because they buy and maintain fewer computers, which in turn reduces the management costs and power consumption. 3

What do you need? Windows® MultiPoint™ Server 2010 Benefits
Multiple user stations can share one computer’s processing capabilities. Each user station, consisting of a keyboard, monitor and mouse, directly connects to the host computer. Benefits Schools can provide more students with computing access at lower total cost of ownership. Students can see their own desktop and control their own individual computing experience. Teachers without technical skills can easily set up and maintain student accounts, share files with their students, and more. Windows® MultiPoint™ Server is a new Windows® product based on the latest Windows® technology. It lets several students simultaneously share one host computer, giving each their own individual, familiar Windows® computing experience. Using Windows® students can browse the Web using Internet Explorer® (Provided you have an Internet connection) They can use Windows Media® Player, Search and Jump Lists. They can run productivity applications, such as Microsoft® Office, educational applications, etc. They can store their files on a shared folder or a USB key 4
