Outline of presentation
General Challenges Oslo Trondheim Bergen Stavanger Grenland Nedre Glomma Conclusion
5
Geography Population structure and topography not ideal for PT, except Oslo and Bergen Areas. We still have some rural roads to improve (replacing car ferries) No significant road traffic congestion challenges (except Oslo Area) But still; increasing public and political interest for PT improvements Oslo Area Population expected to increase by next 15 years – Increasing mobility concern…
6
Outside the Oslo Area People who never travel by Public Transport; have limited (no) personal PT experience: Public Sector responsibles for area development and transport sectors Politicians at all levels (State, County, Municipality) Healthy Norwegian electors age years Leading to car oriented area development and unattractive PT Low PT share lead to low PT share (5%) Public Transport = Transport for the disabled

Trondheim Proposals and Challenges
New light rail system being studied from time to time Area development/ City sprawl during the previous 50 years do not favour PT - and particularly not Light Rail. 2010 Rambøll Light Rail Study
18
Bergen light rail 2010 Bergen-Nesttun 10 km 2013 Nesttun-Rådal 13 km
2016/17 Rådal-Flesland Airport Stadler Variobahn ( units) Length: 32 – 42 m Frequency 4 min peak pass / day (2014) Bergen population

Grenland Light Rail Porsgrunn-Skien Twin Cities Population 100.000
Tram-Train idea kept warm by enthusiasts since 2006. Feasibility Study 2008 Low initiating investments (using existing tracks) LRT could support InterCity Rail development LRT recommended in regional transport plan (long term). No decisions yet. Skien Porsgrunn
24
Nedre glomma light rail
Fredrikstad-Sarpsborg Twin Cities Population Tram-Train idea by enthusiasts Feasibility Study 2014 Partly new tracks Partly using existing rail line – Mulhouse model Serving New Hospital LRT could support InterCity Rail development No decisions yet. Glommabanen
25
conclusion Norway is not very well designed for Public Transport
Except Oslo and Bergen Tramways operating well in Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen Extensions are planned in Oslo and Bergen. Stavanger will get a modern BRT LRT could be developed in more cities in the future If major PT modal share increase
