1. Open up Windows Live Movie Maker

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING WITH FIREWIRE
1. Hook up your camera to the 4 pin firewire and cue up your tape to the start of your clip. Go to the far left and pull down the menu to Import from Device (if it doesn’t recognize camera)

A screen will appear: PHOTOS AND VIDEO WILL BE IMPORTED TO WINDOWS LIVE PHOTO GALLERY CLICK OK (You will find your clips later under Library-Video)

A menu will pop up give the video a name (This is the name of your raw footage) and select the second button choose parts of video to import. Click NEXT.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOOKING UP WITH USB
Click on the webcam

If it asks have the audio follow video
–select DVC camera

Click the RED Button to record and press play on your camera
Click the RED Button to record and press play on your camera. When you have finished a screen will pop up. Give the file a name and pay attention to where it is being saved. Windows should automatically select VIDEO’s Under Library’s NOTE: This folder is on the C drive of this computer. To find this clip you will need to be on this computer. If you wish to work on another computer you’ll have to move it out to the U drive. Be aware that editing from the U drive is much slower.

STEP 2: ADDING EXISTING VIDEOS
1. Go to the top and select ADD VIDEOS AND PHOTOS

Find your file (usually under library-video) and either double click on it or click on it and click open (NOTE: THIS FILE IS ACTUALLY ON THE C DRIVE OF THE COMPUTER YOU ARE USING. TO EDIT ON ANOTHER MACHINE YOU”LL NEED TO MOVE THE FILE OUT TO YOUR :U DRIVE. EDITING IS FASTEST IF YOU CAN STAY ON THE C DRIVE OF THE COMPUTER)

Your video should appear in the box and on the screen to the right
SAVE YOUR PROJECT NOW It’s a good idea to project your movie. Either clicking the blue drive icon at the top or pull down and click save. GIVE THE PROJECT A NAME YOU WILL RECOGNIZE and pay attention to where it is saving the project.

STEP 3 EDITING USING SPLIT AND TRIM TOOLS TO EDIT VIDEO
Play the video and find the end of the first shot you’d like to cut. PAUSE IT. (NOTE : The J key and L key give you individual frame control. CLICK J to go 1 FRAME BACK or L to GO 1 FRAME FORWARD) Under VIDEO TOOLS select SPLIT

CLICK SPLIT and it will divide your clip into two parts.
Continue to play original clip –pause and hit split to cut video into individual shots.

TO TIGHTEN INDIVIDUAL SHOTS USE THE TRIM TOOL
1.CLICK on the shot you’d like to edit. GO to the tome under VIDEO TOOLS –EDIT and select the trim tool.

2 SELECT YOUR START AND END POINTS By either using the control at the top of the screen or playing and pausing. (NOTE : The J key and L key give you individual frame control. CLICK J to go 1 FRAME BACK or L to GO 1 FRAME FORWARD) When you have the point you want CLICK SET START POINT or SET END POINT (NOTE: FOR ANNIMATION WE WANT TO USE 2 FRAMES from the start to the end of the shot. EITHER USE THE L or J KEY OR CLICK THE DOWN ARROW OF YOUR END POINT TWICE) When you’ve set the start and end the way you want it. CLICK SAVE TRIM Continue trimming each shot until you are happy with the final edits.

FINALIZING YOUR MOVIE 1.When you have the video the way you want it go the far left and pull down to SAVE MOVIE –AS RECOMMENDED

A SCREEN WILL POP UP. NAME THE MOVIE –give it your name and the name of the project.
NOTE: IT is saving this movie under. USER-YOUR NAME-MY VIDEOS which is actually on the C drive of the computer you are working on. If you want to access it later on another computer save it on your U drive.

TROUBLE SHOOTING: If you open the project later and get the video is missing you’ll see a yellow triangle with an ! on the screen. It is telling you it can’t find the clip. Odds are the clip is on the C drive of the computer you were using. Most likely you need to go back to the computer you were using and move the clip out to your U drive. The clip is most likely under Library-Videos which is on the C drive of that computer. Then when you double click on the ! it will let you search for your file and you can put the clip back in your project
