2. Project Goals
Create refrigerated can dispenser in the style of a Pez dispenser
Fun, novel, decorative +

3. Design Requirements Capacity to hold/dispense twelve 12 oz. cans
Must be refrigerated
Must be freestanding, sturdy and stable
Easy to use and load
Beverages below 40°F
Plugs into a wall outlet
Operates quietly
Aesthetically appealing

4. Prototype 1
Goal: Construct lifting mechanism

5. Prototype 2 Goals: Replace frame with 80/20 Delrin block/rod system
Vertical springs
Machined lighter, larger pullies

6. Prototype 3: Modifications
Replaced aluminum shaft with hollow stainless steel
Added needle bearings and lubrication on pulley shaft
Installed Peltier and fans
Moved wire to top of Delrin blocks

7. Prototype 3: Modifications
Added guides
Restrung/wired system for better calibration
Replaced rigid platform with flexible acrylic strips
Sealed structure with insulation
Attached head

8. Prototype 3: Problems Encountered
Friction
Springs not strong enough
Unstable can platform
Peltier not powerful enough
Insulation not very effective

9. Prototype 3: Test Results
Ambient T = 24.5°C
No head
Temporary top insulation
No cans
T (t=0min) = 24.0°C
T (t=85min) = 21.6°C
TEST 2
Ambient T = 21.4°C
Top insulation and head added
11 cans inside
T (t=0min) = 21.4°C
T (t=85min) = 19.3°C

10. Possible Future Modifications
Replace springs with motor
If springs are kept:
Roller bearings on pulley shaft
Bigger pulleys to improve pulley/shaft ratio
Reduce friction in top pulleys
Linear bearings instead of Delrin blocks
Use guides with smoother surfaces
Installed closer together to prevent can wedging
More powerful Peltier
Improve insulation
