Designated ELL for more than 6 years
Most born in U.S. and attended all U.S. schools
Orally fluent in English -- BICS
Reading and writing below grade level — focus on CALP
Developing literacy in primary language; may use an informal version of their primary language

6. ELD Support Course Goal
Middle School
To interrupt students’ path to long-term ELL status, accelerate their language acquisition, and put them on the path to enroll in AVID Elective Course and college preparatory coursework. To re-designated out of ELD and no longer require support services.
