1 GT 201: NEW CREATION = BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY
Mike Adebiyi (Ph.D.)

2 WHY IS THE NEW BIRTH NECESSARY?
Man was created in the image of God, a ruler on the earth (Gen. 1:26-28) Man disobeyed God, lost his position and took on the nature of the devil (Gen. 2:16-17, Rom. 3:23) The new birth is man’s only opportunity for restoration (John 3:3-6)

3 NEW CREATION BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

4 NEW CREATION BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY
Rom 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Rom 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

5 NEW CREATION BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY
Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

6 NEW CREATION BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY
You are a new creation, brand new specie. The nature of God is in you. Therefore, you must learn how to live your new life just as a newborn baby must learn to do certain things in this world. (1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby)

7 WHAT HAPPENED AT THE NEW BIRTH?
Jesus took your place. When he died, you died. (Rom. 6:8) When he was buried, you were buried. (Col. 2:12) When he was made alive, you were made alive. (Col.2:13) When he was vindicated, you were vindicated. (1Tim.3:16) When he was raised to sit in heaven, you were raised with him. (Eph. 2:6)

8 Basic Foundation of Christianity
Hebrews 6:1-2 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

9 Doctrine of Christ Journey to Perfection (Heb 6:1-2):
Journey to Perfection (Heb 6:1-2): repentance from dead works, faith toward God, doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

10 REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS
Repentance is a change of mind and attitude leading to a change of action (2 Chr 7: 14) A dead work is anything we do which is devoid of the life of God. (Heb. 9:14)

11 REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS
The marks of true repentance are Godly sorrow (2 Cor. 7:10); Confession of sin (1John 1:9); Forsaking sin (Proverbs 28:13); and Hatred of sin (Ezek. 20:43-44)

12 Faith towards God FAITH – Faith is absolute trust in God (Heb. 11:1)
Faith comes by hearing (Rom. 10:17). Our faith should grow just as a seed grows (Rom 1:17)

13 Faith towards God Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6). Faith is a gift from God (Eph. 2:8) With faith, all things are possible. (Matt. 17:20)

14 Doctrine of Baptism There are three (3) major baptisms:
Baptism into the body of Christ – Done by the Holy Spirit at Salvation. (1 Cor12:13) Baptism in Water – Identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. (Rom. 6:3-4, Matt. 28:19) Baptism in the Holy Spirit – can be received by laying of hands. (Acts 19: 1-6)

15 LAYING ON OF HANDS LAYING ON OF HANDS – Placing hands upon the body of another person for a definite spiritual purpose. It had a lot of significance in the old testament (Lev. 1:1-4, Gen. 48:14, Deut. 34:9)

16 LAYING ON OF HANDS Reasons:
To impart healing (Luke 4:40, Mark 16:17-18) (b) To impart baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:6) (c) To impart spiritual gifts and blessings (Rom. 1:11, 1Tim. 4:14, 2 Tim. 1:6) (d) To set people apart for specific assignment (Acts 13:2-3).

17 LAYING ON OF HANDS However, care should be taken in the laying on of hands. (1Tim. 5:22). Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

18 RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD
RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD – It means raising up or rising up (1Cor. 15:16-18) (a)Some people were raised from the dead (John 11:1-45). (b) Jesus Himself was raised (Matt. 28:6)

19 RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD
(C ) Future resurrection coming (1Thess. 4:16-17). (d) Believers will be raised (1Cor. 15: ) (e)Resurrection day is reward day (1Cor. 3:10-15).

20 ETERNAL JUDGEMENT ETERNAL JUDGEMENT – There is eternal blessing in heaven as well as eternal judgment in hell. Some teachings on eternal judgment are unscriptural – annihilation, purgatory, universal reconciliation.

21 ETERNAL JUDGEMENT Saints will be judged (Rom. 14:10-12). Sinners will be judged (Rev. 20:11-15). Eternal judgment is eternal separation from God (Matt. 18:8-9, 25:41-46). Therefore, we must make the salvation of souls our priority. (Matt. 28:18-20).
