1 Questions for research & discussion
Be specific, and consider the breathed of current events from first part of the 20th century in Europe when answering these, not just what is going on in Ireland After years of failed rebellions, why did the Irish succeed this time? What was different about it from previous rebellions? Were the tactics used by both the Irish and the English in the Anglo-Irish war appropriate? Why or why not? (List both arguments then explain your opinion.) Explain the Anglo-Irish peace treaty. Should the Irish have demanded the entirety of the country? Could the English have given it to the them? Explain the Irish Civil War: the two sides, what generally happened and how it was resolved. How did this impact Irish politics up to today? Was the Irish Civil War inevitable? Why or why not? (Be sure to consider religion as a factor.) How does this revolution differ from others we have studied? Be specific. Georges Danton famously said “revolutions cannot be made with rosewater.” Considering this and other rebellions we’ve studied in Europe recently, is this statement accurate. Explain.
