Key Terms Complexity Editing - Building an intensified screen event from carefully selected and juxtaposed shots. Continuity Editing - Preserving visual continuity from shot to shot. Diverging Vectors -Index and motion vectors that point away from each other. Continuing Vectors- Graphic vectors that extend each other, or index and motion vectors that point and move in the same direction.

Key Terms Continued Converging Vectors- Index and motion vectors that point to each other. Mental Map-Tells us where things are or are supposed to be in on- and off -screen space. Cut Away- A shot of an object or event that is peripherally connected with the overall event and that is relatively static. Commonly used between two shots that do not provide continuity.

Key Terms Continued Jump Cut - An image that jumps slightly from one screen position to another during a cut. Also, any gross visual discontinuity from shot to shot. Jogging- Frame by frame advancement of recorded shot sequence, resulting in a jogging motion. Often used to view frame by frame. Time Base Corrector- An electronic accessory to video recorders that helps make videotape playbacks electronically stable.

Video & Audio Transitions
Cut - Snaps from shot to shot. Video Dissolve- Fades in and out from shot to shot. Push- Slides horizontally in and out of shots. Audio Dissolve- Fades the Audio track in and out, so that the audio track sounds smooth.

Compression Converting video for either DVD or a digital file.
DVD’s play on DVD players. Digital Files can be uploaded to websites. Compression Software- Sorenson Squeeze, Apple Compressor and MPEG 2 Streamclip.
