2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of October 30, 2017 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Supporting Details We will learn how to describe details that support the specific points the author makes in a text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the October/November writing calendar Spend time editing/revising once you have finished your piece Math Practice 2-digit addition and subtraction using the attached strategies Practice math facts within 20 using math fact links on class blog Math: 2-Digit Addition/Subtraction We will learn strategies to add two 2-digit numbers within 100 based on place value. Spelling Choose an activity from the November Speller’s Choice activity sheet S.O.S. for the weekly words – about, know, every Writing: Informational Writing We will continue our unit on informational writing. We will learn how to introduce a topic and use facts to develop points about our topic. Reading Read an informational book for 20 minutes Raz-kids Use Pebble Go to research the following: Mary Musgrove, James Oglethorpe, and Sequoyah Science/SS/Health: Historical Figures We will learn about the contributions of James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and Sequoyah and how they were influenced by their environments. Science/Social Studies Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern ou/ow Language Skill Mark Your Calendar OU says “ou” as in the words count, ground, and out. OU is usually at the beginning or in the middle of a word or syllable. OW says “ou” as in the words cow, plow, or flower. OW is usually at the end of a word or syllable. **If a single l, n, el, or er follows the “ou” sound at the end of a word, use ow.** (brown, howl, towel, tower) Contractions We will learn how to use an apostrophe to form contractions.
