In the Bible we read of faith.
We read of the examples of men and women who had faith and we are encouraged by their examples.
Heb. 11 – men and women who showed great faith

3. Examples of Faith
Faith must be understood. Faith, in its simplest form, is simple or personal belief. Faith, in its complex form, is the truth from God.

Heb. 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Vs. 3 – by the truth of God’s word we understand that God created by His word

Now, when we fully understand and believe this we then have faith.
Rom. 1:17 – For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.
Rom. 10:17 - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The former tells us that righteousness is revealed from faith, the truth of God’s word, to faith, our belief in His truth.
The latter tells that faith, our belief in God, comes by hearing His truth, which is the faith.

7. Examples of Faith
The men and women listed here both by names and description are those who heard the truth form God and they responded in obedience to that truth showing their faith, belief in what was revealed.
Vs. 4 – Abel heard what God said concerning sacrifices offered to Him and was found faithful because he obeyed the command

8. Examples of Faith Faith is the truth from God and
faith is obeying that truth.
When we consider our faith we can reflect on and learn from the faith that was shown by these men and women.

10. Examples of Faith
Two examples of faith in God can be found in Abraham and David.
These men demonstrated exactly the same faith in different ways.

11. Examples of Faith Abraham:
Gen. 22 – God tells Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering.
Isaac is the son God promised Abraham.
Gen. 15:2-4 – Abraham asks God is Eliezer can be his heir and God tells him no but he will have an heir.
Gen. 18:10 – God tells Abraham that Sarah will have a son
Gen. 21:1-2 – Sarah conceived and bore a son

12. Examples of Faith
The faith of Abraham is demonstrated when he turns to his servants and says, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you (Gen. 22:5).”
Abraham knew that he was going to sacrifice Isaac but that God would yet allow him to return with Abraham (Heb. 11:19).

13. Examples of Faith David:
2 Sam. 11 – David commits fornication with Bathsheba.
Bathsheba becomes pregnant and David ultimately has her husband Uriah killed.
2 Sam. 12:14 – David is told the child will die
2 Sam. 12:15-23 – David pleads for the child. The child dies.

14. Examples of Faith
David demonstrates a faith in God beyond this life. Whether he fully understood eternal life or not isn’t important because he understood that while the child would not return to this life he would go to be with the child.

15. Examples of Faith Psalm 23:4 –
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

16. Can I have faith like Abraham? Can I have faith like David?
Examples of Faith
Both Abraham and David showed faith in God. Both of them expected death yet both of them knew that life was in God’s hands.
We must this type of faith in God and in His word.
