Code of ethics to check malpractices and plagiarism Name of the software: “Turnitin”. PLAGIARISM The act of copying other’s work without giving proper reference and presenting them as their own is called as plagiarism. According to English Literary Society, plagiarism can be described as: turning in someone else's work as your own; copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit; failing to put a quotation in quotation marks; giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation; changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit; copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not. TYPES OF PLAGIARISM CLONE: Submitting another’s work, word-for-word as one’s own CRTL-C: Contains significant portions of text from a single source without alterations FIND-REPLACE: Changing key words and phrases, but retaining the essential content of the source REMIX: Paraphrases from multiple sources, made to fit together RECYCLE: Borrows generously from the writer’s previous work without citation HYBRID: Combines perfectly cited sources and copied passages without citation MASH-UP: Mixes copied material from multiple sources 404 ERROR: Includes citations to non-existent or inaccurate information about sources AGGREGATOR: Includes proper citation to sources, but the paper contains almost no original work RE-TWEET: Includes proper citation, but relies too closely on the text’s original wording and/or source Source: CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM In the case of any scholar who committed the act of plagiarism in the Thesis/Journal Publication, his/her Thesis/ Degree shall be forfeited; His/her research registration shall be cancelled; He/she shall be debarred to register for any other programme in the University; For the abetment of above such action, the recognition of supervisor ship of the scholar’s supervisor shall be withdrawn for a period of the five years; He/she shall be debarred from guiding the scholars for any research programme in the Hindustan University till such period. Self-plagiarism is also punishable. HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM You should give citation for all material whatever you are using for your research work You should not publish your own work second time. You should give references for the idea also which you are using for your research work even if you change the words. If you use someone else’s words as it is. you should always use quotation marks. While citing the sources academic style sheet (like APA, MLA, Chicago) should be followed. You should not use material from social media or Wikipedia without verifying its origin. After finishing all work you should check through online plagiarism software before submit your research work in anywhere.
