2 Epistolary Novels Epistolary novels are told through the medium of letters written by one or more of the characters. Originating with Samuel Richardson’s Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), the story of a servant girl’s victorious struggle against her master’s attempts to seduce her. it was one of the earliest forms of novel to be developed and remained one of the most popular up to the 19th century. The epistolary novel’s reliance on subjective points of view makes it the forerunner of the modern psychological novel.

3 In order to write an epistolary novel…
The usual form is letters, although diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documents are sometimes used.

4 Famous Epistolary Novels
Dracula by Bram Stoker. The form is almost entirely made of diary entries, telegrams, letters, and newspaper clippings.

5 Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography by Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler uses letters, documents, and other scripts to construct the plotline.

6 Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding was written in the form of a personal diary.

7 The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot is a series of ten novels written in the form of diary entries.

8 Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney is a series of fiction books written in the form a diary, including hand-written notes and cartoon drawings.

9 World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks is a series of interviews from various survivors of a zombie apocalypse.
