Critical Thinking / Problem Solving Professionalism / Work Ethic Teamwork Communication Skills Story: Painting/Sanding the deck 2016 “Must Have” skills for career readiness – NACE Critical thinking = objective analysis to form a judgement. Problem Solving = finding solutions Professionalism = skills/competence and conduct. Work Ethic = belief that hard work is a intrinsically virtuous or a moral good…. Integrity / Discipline Teamwork = the ability to work efficiently/effectively with a group Communication Skills = Imparting or exchanging of information….. + Social connection!

What makes me happy? Simon Sinek – “Circle of Safety”; Intrinsic Motivation (Dan Pink) – Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose Gallup – Consistent communication, Clear expectations, Recognition, Empowerment, Growth/Learning Be careful of “Job Advice” you receive….How important is “title” to you? Forbes Story: What does the receptionist think? Story: Treatment of the waitress Humility = Self-awareness – knowing your own strengths/weaknesses, motivations, abilities, biases (conscious and unconscious) Collaboration = working with someone to produce or create. Compromise = mutual concession Am I the type of person other want on their team? “Vam-peers”….Do people feel better/more positive/energized/optimistic after talking with me? Reliability = ability to be depended on for matters of honesty, accuracy, achievement/performance Story: Partnet new hire Setting/Keeping/Adjusting Proper expectations: Raises (2.8% avg), Promotions (8% avg – 2-4 yrs), Job changes (4.6 yr avg tenure), The “real” market for your skills Recognizing when you are not engaged.
