Handling Accurately The Word of God
It Can’t Just Say It
3
2 Tim 2:15-16 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.
4
Gal. 1:6-8 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

#1 – You Have to Know the Context
You Need to Know “Who” is Talking or “Who” They are Talking to. You Need to Know “Why” They Are Saying What They are Saying.
6
Isa. 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! Context = 14:4 Who = Babylon
7
Matt. 24:6-7, 21, 27-30 And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. Context = 24:1-3 Why or What = The Destruction of Jerusalem Key Verse = 24:34

#2 – You Have to Agree With Other Passages
Your Interpretation of a Passage Can’t Contradict or Ignore Another Passage. John 3:16 Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38
9
Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. James 2:18, 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

#3 – You Have to Disagree With Modern Culture (When Necessary)
1 Tim. 2:9-14 If We Take This Literally We Will Defy Our Own Culture. God’s Word Trumps Man’s Culture
11
Heb 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. 1 Cor 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals.
12
Before You Believe in an Interpretation, Make Sure…
It With the Context. It Agrees With All Other Scriptures. You Are Willing to Go Against Your Own Culture to Follow God’s Command.
