The average maximum temperature in Spain in April is 63°F/17°C and the average minimum temperature is 46°F/8°C.
You should be prepared for both warm/sunny days but also cooler weather with occasional rain.
The Spanish have an expression: "hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo" (until the 40th May - i.e. June 10 - don't take off your coat). This is especially the case in Madrid
