The wheel was first developed in the Middle East around 4000BC. Used to make animal power more productive.
By 3500BC, the wheel has spread to Europe and North Africa

2000BC: the wheel has spread to Central Asia and from Central Asia to both India and East Asia.
1000BC: the wheel has spread from India to Sub-Saharan Africa and from East Asia to Indonesia

In 1500 BC, the wheel is invented in Central Mexico. It is not used as a means of transportation and never spreads.

Advanced seafaring is believed to have originated in India around 3000BC.
By 2000BC, sailing had spread to the Middle East, Europe, China, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Indonesia

Sailing developed independently in the Andes Mountains around 400BC.
This spread up and down the Pacific Coast, reaching Central Mexico by 500AD.

True writing believed to have developed in the Middle East in 3200BC, in order to better record information related to an increasingly complex economy.

By 2500BC, writing is in use in Anatolia, India, North Africa, and Central Asia.
By 1500BC, writing has spread to Europe and East Asia.
By 1000BC, writing has spread to Sub-Saharan Africa and Indonesia

15. Writing 2 Writing developed independently in Central Mexico by 600BC
Most neighboring societies did not have complex enough societies yet to need writing. It did not spread and eventually fell out of use in Central Mexico.

16. Compass Compass invented in China around 200BC.
Spreads to India and Indonesia by 200AD.
By 1000AD, the compass has spread to the middle East.

North Africa and Europe receive the compass from the Middle East by about 1200AD.
Central Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa receive the Compass by 1500AD.

18. Gunpowder Gunpowder invented around 900AD in East Asia.
Between AD, gunpowder spreads into Central Asia and, from there, into India and the Middle East.

Gunpowder spreads from the Middle East into North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe around 1300.
