International Seminar on Energy Security in Asia Training Program to Support Renewable Energy Deployment in Asia-Pacific Island Countries

3 1) 27th Meeting of the Energy Charter Conference
Date : Nov Venue: Keio Plaza Hotel (Tokyo) Participants : 69 countries and 9 organs (including 32 Ministerial-level VIPs) Adopted “Tokyo Declaration on the Energy Charter” Iran, Guatemala, Iraq and three African regional organizations signed the International Energy Charter. Yemen has completed the accession process of the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT)

4 Key abstracts of “Tokyo Declaration”
Confirming that Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) contributes to strengthening the rule of law in the energy sector. Recognizing the importance of natural gas as low GHG emission energy. Confirming the importance to promote proper, continuous and high-quality energy infrastructure investment. Recognizing contributions by ECT for improving business environment in the energy sector by offering legal framework to ensure stability and transparency of the investment environment.

5 2) International Seminar on Energy Security in Asia
Date : 25 Nov. 2016 Venue: Keio Plaza Hotel (Tokyo) Participants : Over 100 participants from government, industry, and academia Key discussions : How to strengthen Energy Security by better mobilizing global energy architecture while addressing climate change: Implication and Future Prospects in Asia Global Energy Architecture for better global energy future: Challenges and Opportunities

6 3) Training Program to Support Renewable Energy Deployment in Asia-Pacific Island Nations co-organized by Ministry of the Environment and IRENA Date : 6-10 February 2017 Venue : Tokyo / Kobe / Awaji Island, Japan Participants : 38 participants from government of 12 Asia- Pacific SIDS, MOEJ, MOFAJ, JICA, IRENA and others Key Points : Japan introduced its policies, institutions and examples to strengthen capacity buildings for deploying renewable energy in SIDS in the Asia-Pacific region. MOFA made a presentation on Japan's Energy Diplomacy and cooperation with Asia-Pacific Island Nations including the outcomes of the meetings related to PALM JICA: Japan International Cooperation Agency SIDS: Small Island Developing States PALM: Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting
