1 STAAR Writing 2014

2 STAAR Writing consists of two parts over two days
STAAR Writing consists of two parts over two days. One part is revise/edit and the other is a written composition.

3 Revise/ Edit portion Revising is where the students will make changes to the text to improve it and make it stronger or more easily understood. (sentence combining, adding or removing sentences, etc…) Editing is where the students will make corrections to the text to make it accurate. (Spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc…)

4 Written composition Students will create an authentic piece of writing for each day. One day will be a personal narrative piece and the other day will be an expository piece. We do not know the order. The personal narrative piece will their story. The students will go through their writing process to create their piece. The expository piece will give the students an opportunity to explain their thinking and reasoning. They will go through their writing process to create this piece as well.

5 The students’ writing score will be based on the following:
The students’ writing will be scored on a scale of being the highest. The students’ writing score will be based on the following: Unity and Coherence Form and structure Progression of ideas and transitions Development of details Depth and Understanding of the task Word Choice Sentence Fluency Conventions
