1 MI Excel Collaborative Partner Meeting
Supporting Michigan Districts with Priority Schools February 18, 2016

2 WELCOME Think about the released 2012 cohort of Priority Schools
At your tables, have this conversation: What criteria do you think contributed to their release by the governor? What details about this would you want to ask the SRO about this later in the day? Welcome, introductions, While I am standing up here facilitating today – I know that you are the ones who know the work and you are the ones who understand what your districts need. So, the best people to listen to are one another and we hope to give you ample opportunities to do that. So let’s give you a fun opportunity to talk to your colleagues.

3 Math Claims in M-Step

4 Roles and Responsibilities of SIFs and ISs

5 How does your ISD know if MI Excel Services and supports are successful?
The question posed to you was: What sort of evidence can you provide to demonstrate the effectiveness of your ISD supports?

9 Surveys of Enacted Curriculum Conference

10 Surveys of Enacted Curriculum
Data Analysis Module now available in Learnport and there are materials on the Blueprint website under ISD/ESA Resources Beth

11 MI Excel SSoS Evaluation Project
“Real-time” evaluation of the impact of MI Excel services in format of a dashboard Visible to MDE and districts Uses existing state data that is collected Uses existing district and school data that is collected in regional data hubs Requires no extra data collection by districts/schools, just permission to access the existing data sets in the data hubs Participation is optional, not required No accountability for districts/schools connected to the dashboard Karen or Bill? MI Excel schools received a communication from MDE asking districts to give permission to MDE to use their existing data in their regional data hubs to help populate this dashboard. Not all districts participate in the data hubs so not all districts will even have this data to populate the data hubs. The important thing is that this is an evaluation about MI Excel – not an evaluation of the districts/schools. What questions might you have about this?

12 2012 Released Priority Schools What do they need to do differently?
No requirement to submit Quarterly Board Report effective March 24, 2016 Transition from Unpacking Tool to Goals and Plans by September 1, 2016 Must continue to use Title I set-asides as approved in the consolidated app May continue to receive MI Excel supports from ISD/ESA Bill - Memo with this information was sent or will be sent??

13 ESSA Update Bill

14 Lunch Conversation Given that the SRO is leaving the Unpacking Tool up to the discretion of each district’s superintendent, what would you recommend to MDE as the course of action for the 2016/17 school year? Keep asking schools to work from Unpacking Tool and not be assigned Goals and Plans and put in Sharepoint Keep asking schools to work from Unpacking Tool and not be assigned Goals and Plans and put somewhere other than Sharepoint Move schools away from Unpacking Tool to Goals and Plans Another option? Karen

15 Unpacking Tool Feedback
Take a sticky note and stand up and find a partner at another table Collaboratively decide which option for the Unpacking Tool you recommend and put a blank sticky note on that chart paper If you have a fourth option, please write it on the sticky note and place on the “Other Options” chart paper The reason I am asking you to do this in pairs is because I am hoping for consensus on this recommendation. If the two of you have different ideas about this, can one of you provide a compelling argument for your recommendation and have just one sticky note for the two of you. If that is not possible, each of you can put a sticky note on the recommendation you support if you write on it “My partner and I disagreed.”

16 How do system level changes impact/change the work that your ISDs are doing?

17 Thank You for Your Participation
Using the sticky notes at your tables, tell us: What you liked about this meeting What did not meet your needs to what you would suggest be changed for the next meeting Topics to include at our May 26 meeting AM Focus PM Priority

Food for Thought The difference between try and triumph is a little umph. Author Unknown Thanks for being that person who gives that little extra “umph” to your Priority districts and schools to support them in their hard work.
