3 TIRF Ignition Interlock Technical Assistance
Technical assistance is available to strengthen ignition interlock programs More than 25 states since 2009 Tailored to state needs - Technical assistance is available to strengthen ignition interlock programs - More than 25 states (and a number of regions) since 2009 - Tailored to state needs - Develop workflow chart of state ignition interlock program - Identify gaps, challenges and barriers - Develop meeting agenda - Conduct 1-2 day meeting to share results with the state and identify solutions to improve the delivery and implementation of IID programs - Final report with solutions and strategies to strengthen program - New agreement will include the use of TIRF’s DWI Dashboard and expand to all impaired driving countermeasures

5 Online Ignition Interlock Course for Law Enforcement
2-hour online training, designed using accreditation standards set by the International Association of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) Purpose of providing information and resources to support law enforcement who may encounter ignition interlock devices in vehicles during routine traffic stops. Topics include: Overview of Ignition Interlocks How an Ignition Interlock Functions License and Vehicle Requirements Ignition Interlock Procedures Training available by September 2017 IADLEST has developed a National Certification Program and Training Portal for Law Enforcement to improve training quality for law enforcement officers. The NCP applies rigorous standards on training content ensuring that providers incorporate best practices. Those who complete the course can then submit their certificate for continuing education credits. Law enforcement officers enforce drunk driving laws including ignition interlock laws. Officers need to be able to determine if a driver is required to drive with an ignition interlock device, how the device functions, how to tell if an interlock has been tampered with, and if a driver has attempted to circumvent the device.

6 Current Ignition Interlock Research
Compliance-Based Ignition Interlock Removal This research project will examine how compliance-based ignition interlock removal programs work and their effectiveness in reducing post-interlock recidivism The purpose of the research project is to better understand how CBR programs work and their effectiveness in reducing post-interlock recidivism 42 month project (started October 2016)
