2 Guest Speaker Tomorrow!
The Great American Eclipse: summarizes the history of eclipses, the cause of eclipses, and ways to see the total solar eclipse in August   Homework: come with 1-2 questions about eclipses

3 Earth-Moon-Sun Model Manual
Models, models and more models!!! Science often involves the construction and use of a wide variety of models and simulations to help develop explanations about natural phenomena. Phenomena: What creates moonlight? We will keep track of our EMS models in this manual.

4 Apparent Motion Motion that seems real, but is really due to the fact that the observer is moving. Objects in the sky appear to move from East to West because Earth turns from West to East Time Lapse Video of Night Sky

5 Earth in Space Solar System Scope Show with globe axis and rotation.

6 How does Earth Move? Axis = imaginary line passing through Earth’s center. Rotation = spinning of Earth on its axis What do we experience as a result of Earth’s rotation that gives us evidence of this motion?

7 Why does Earth have day and night?
Earth’s rotation on its axis and the direction of sunlight causes day and night. Ask to write answer in journal, share, demo with flashlight and then show graphic

8 Rotate Vs. Revolve Revolution = movement of one object around another object Orbit = the path of an object as it revolves around another object in space. Earth rotates and revolves. How are these two things different?
