1 Sun-Earth-Moon System
January 11, 2016

2 Vocabulary Rotate – to turn or spin on an axis
Revolve – to move in a curved path or orbit; to go around something

3 Orbit – the curved path that an object follows around a central object Scale – the ratio between the measurements on a map or model and the actual measurements of an object

4 What did we learn? Lesson 1 – Getting Started
Ancient people used myths and legends to explain what they observed about the Sun and Moon as seen from Earth

5 The Sun The Sun is a star – it is the largest body in the solar system! The Sun is much farther away from Earth than the Moon is. You can fit 109 Earths lined up across the Sun!!!!

6 The Earth Earth is larger than the Moon – you could fit almost 4 Moons lined up across the Earth Earth is tilted about 23 degrees. Earth rotates(spins) on its axis – one full rotation = 24 hours (1 day) Earth revolves around the Sun – one full revolution = days (1 year)

7 The Moon The Moon orbits the Earth.
It takes about a month (27.3 days) for the Moon to orbit (go around) the Earth .
