2 What is a shadow? What causes it?
A shadow is a decrease in the amount of light reaching a surface. It is caused by an object placed in between the light source and the surface, which blocks light from reaching the surface.

3 How is the concept of a shadow important in understanding a solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves directly between the Earth and the Sun. The Moon casts its shadow on the Earth when it blocks out the sunlight.

4 What phase will the moon be when we observe the solar eclipse on Monday? Is it possible to observe a solar eclipse during any other phase?

5 Why don’t we observe a solar eclipse once a month, when there is a New Moon? Why are solar eclipses so rare? online model

6 Why are we only going to see a “partial solar eclipse”, but just a few hours north of us they will see a “total solar eclipse”? What is the difference?
