2. How the Royal Navy fits together:
The Surface Fleet – the ships of the RN make up the surface Fleet.
The Fleet Air Arm – the helicopters and fixed wing aircraft make up the Navy’s air force (Fleet Air Arm).
The Submarine Service – the submarines (Ballistic and Fleet) make up the Submarine Service
The Royal Marines – the amphibious Commandos (Royal Navy’s Infantry) and the RM Band Service make up the Royal Marines.

Warfare Branch
Seaman Specialist – steer the ship, seamanship tasks (towing, anchoring etc), crew Rigid Inflatable boats & operate ships close range weapons.
Warfare Specialist – running operations room computers, gather radar & sonar picture of ships, submarines & aircraft, and specialise in above water, underwater or electronic warfare.

Hydrographic, Meteorological & Oceanographic Specialist – surveyor who gathers vital data about weather and ocean conditions.

Naval Airman (Aircraft Handler) – prepare the flight deck, marshal aircraft and look after flight safety including fire- fighting.
Naval Airman (Survival Equipment) – maintain & repair survival kit and associated equipment

Air Engineering Technicians’ -
ensure aircraft's systems for navigation, detection and attack operational, routine servicing, maintenance of the aircraft fuselage, flying controls and propulsion systems, hydraulic and fuel systems, as well as weapons and electronic warfare, navigation and digital communications systems, power supplies and radar.

Aircrew Officer =
Pilot – fly either helicopters
or fast jets (Harrier)
Observer – in helicopters only and ‘fight the aircraft’
Air Traffic Control Officer – control the aircraft on radar and responsible for safety.
Air Engineer Officer – manage the technicians to ensure aircraft safe and operational.
