North Sea Fisheries For many years the North Sea was polluted, but governments now make industries filter out pollutants and treat sewage. Overfishing has happened in the North Sea. Three reasons for this are; New bigger and faster boats can catch more fish. Bigger nets also mean bigger catches. The use of technology like sonar to track the movement of fish.

Managing the North Sea Fisheries
The EU sets quotas every year, but this creates big problems with discards as fishermen aim to catch their whole quota. Some scientists argue that we need no-take zones, but then you would have to compensate the fishermen. This would be very expensive!
