5 Mark 14 32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” 35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed….”

6 The challenge of praying when you are in pain….

7 "Darkness is such that I really do not see—neither with my mind nor with my reason—the place of God in my soul is blank—There is no God in me—when the pain of longing is so great—I just long & long for God. … The torture and pain I can't explain."

9 What must we do in times of pain?
1.) Go where you usually go to meet with God and His people.

2.) Go to God for your pain-meds.

11 Mark 14:35-36 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.  36) “Abba, Father,” he said, “Everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

12 What should be the CONTENT of our prayers in times of pain?
1.) Reaffirm God’s relationship to us—our Father.

2.) Reaffirm God’s relationship to our experience—He’s sovereign. Mark 14:36 “Everything is possible for you.”
