The Simplified Metrics
The Simplified Metrics measure students’ progression along their educational journey from recruitment to completion, transfer, and the workforce. The metrics provide a holistic approach to our work on student success, across funding streams and initiatives. This focus will benefit college performance on the Funding Formula Metrics and system performance on Vision for Success goals. Hopefully you have already heard about the Simplified Metrics Initiative. It is the effort to integrate, align, reduce, and simplify all the various metrics that have been at play for each of the different statewide initiatives. For example, the SSSP, Equity, Guided Pathways, IEPI, SWP, AEBG, and of course the SCFF and the Vision for Success metrics. We needed a way to focus on the students progression along their educational journey from recruitment all the way to completion, graduation, transfer, and the workforce. We needed a way to seamlessly connect it with the SWP and the Adult Ed pipeline.

Principles The focus will be strictly on students and their educational journeys from recruitment to completion. The outcome will be ONE set of metrics for the system drillable for details. Equity will be observed across all metrics. Metrics will align the progression of students along various initiatives. Each metric will be valid, drillable, measurable, and critical. The delivery of each metric will be planned including the need for possible legislative work. The process of simplification does not eliminate current data but ensures consistency of data in terms of definitions, source, and timing.

How does SCFF fit into the scope of Simplified Metrics?

Simplified Metrics include SCFF
The Simplified Metrics are aligned with all the momentum points and outcomes of the Funding Formula. The data definitions are also the same for both. The variations between the sets are in terms of rates versus counts. Simplified Metrics looks at students’ journeys along their educational pathways from recruitment to completion, therefore most metrics are based on rate. While SCFF metrics focus mostly on point-in-time data to generate counts for the purposes of funding allocations.
