New Grading Scale Effective August 2016, the State of South Carolina is adopting a new GPA/grading scale for all public high school students. The old scale remains in place for any credits/grades earned prior to August 2016. The old scale was a seven-point grading scale. Effective this year, the new scale is a ten-point scale.

Special Note For the current students, the quality points scored on the former 7-Point grading scale will be averaged with the quality points earned on the current 10-Point grade scale to determine a student’s GPA. Therefore, for sophomores, most will have one year under the “old” scale and three under the “new” scale. Your GPA will be computed using a combination of both scales.
