Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Today, in the United States as in other countries populated largely by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country. What are the different ways in which culture can be different? What are the positives and negatives to this idea? What is Culture?

Categorizes humans by heredity, physical characteristics, geographic ancestry
Examples White Black Asian Pacific Islander It’s what you bubble in on a form Race

A group of people whose members identify with each other through a common heritage often consisting of a common ideology that stresses common ancestry Examples: African American Kurd Arab French Not everyone has an ethnicity they identify with, especially in diverse countries Ethnicity

Nationality A country of allegiance or national identity Examples:
American Chinese Colombian French This can be the same as your ethnicity “If there is a war, who would you fight for?” Nationality

A group of people who adhere to the same religious beliefs
Examples: Jews Sikhs Buddhists Mormons Within world religions there are specific divisions Some ethnicities have specific religious groups within them, although some are all one religion Some religious groups are tribal or very specific Religious Group
