King David, a skilled general, unified the Jews and Israel. Solomon, his son, transformed Jerusalem into a great capital and built the temple to house the Ark of the Covenant.

7. 930 BC
Solomon died and soon foreign conquerors (from Babylon in Mesopotamia) take the Hebrews into exile. It was at this time that the first temple was destroyed and the Ark of the Covenant was lost.

8. Hebrews return to Israel and rebuild the temple.

The Romans (who then ruled Palestine) defeat revolting Jews and force Jews out of Palestine. The scattering of Jews is called Diaspora. (The second temple is destroyed)
