SYNTHESIS OF RESULTS - WORK IN GROUPS
2
Work in groups Objective: Based on SPREP conservation objective, define threats to Dugong/ Seagrass, drivers and response 2 groups – Seagrass and Dugong 2 Facilitators: Group 1 - Seagrass: Nicolas Group 2 - Dugong: Maya Resource people: Dugongs: Donna Seagrass: Len Regional policy: Mike Rapporteurs: 1 for each Group Time: 2 hours

The process – 2 hours Identify environmental Conservation goal
Identify environmental, societal and economic threats to the conservation goal Identify drivers affecting the targeted ecosystem/ species - identify the key sectors, stakeholders and motivations (i.e. drivers) that are causing the threats Identify Responses (Strategies) to the key threats and drivers

Generic project/ program model

Some Definitions Goal – A formal statement detailing a desired impact of a project/ programme, such as the desired future status of a target. A good goal meets the criteria of being linked to targets and ‘SMART’. Objective – A formal statement detailing a desired outcome of a project such as reducing a critical threat. Direct Threat – A human action that immediately degrades one or more biodiversity targets. For example, “logging” or “fishing.” Sometimes referred to as a “pressure” or “source of stress.” Driver – A factor identified in a situation analysis that is affecting, or could affect, a direct threat.

Dugong & Seagrass Conceptual model
Conceptual Model – A diagram that represents relationships between key factors that are believed to impact or lead to one or more biodiversity targets. A good model should link the biodiversity targets to threats, opportunities, stakeholders, and intervention points, capturing the logic of the intended change behind planned activities. It should also indicate which factors are most important for measures Strategy Driver Direct threat Conservation goal Enabling condition Rank
