WARM-UP – Find Ethiopia (Africa) & Brazil (South America) on the globe to visualize the distance the dust particles traveled. 2. Find the Andes Mountains in Peru (S. America). Then find the Maranon River. Follow this river into the Amazon River and into the Atlantic Ocean. (You are following the path of rock erosion, the making of sediment, the depositing of sediment along the way and into the Atlantic ocean where it feeds the microscopic organisms (especially diatoms that make our oxygen). 3. Find Norway (in N. Europe). This is where the glacier calving occurred, dumping nutrients into the sea, feeding diatoms. 4. Find Japan (in east Asia). Follow across the Pacific Ocean to the west coast of the USA (North America). When the Fukishima Nuclear explosion, debris washed along the west coast of the USA.
