* Indirect objects: - Humans - Role of recipients - Transfer Santa Clause gives a gift to a kid. The teacher read a book to students.

1-2. Two I.O constructions - After-verb: S + V + I.O + D.O e.g. I sent my friend some photos. - After-prep: S + V + D.O + to/for + I.O e.g. I sent some photos to my friend.

Verbs commonly used with indirect objects: It cost me a lot of money. It cost a lot of money to me.

Level 1: Word origin, syllable stress Verb origin Stress I.O position Old English First or only syllable stressed e.g. tell, give, teach After-verb and after-prep Latin (New verbs) Second syllable stressed (two or more syllables) e.g. re-PORT, com-MU-ni-cate After-prep only I said him something. Having  to have Goal / possessor He sent me a letter. Not Having (Negative effect) After-verb only Entity  not to have Not a goal or a location I bet you five dollars. Transferring External Benefit Obtained entity  To be for the benefit of Goal / beneficiary I bought some apples for my sister. External Benefit  to benefit by having Beneficiary/ Possessor We made her son cookies.

Level 4: End weight Long, heavy, complex noun phrases  at the end E.g. I will buy some bread for David who lives next door. I gave Sue the wrong information given in the brochure
